Based on Yesterday's Diagnostic Results
Every coach has been there. You arrive at training knowing your team is struggling, but you're not sure what will fix it. The weekends match exposed your weaknesses. Parents are asking questions. The pressure is building.
Yesterday, you identified your team's weakest area. While I would always recommend you focus on long term development, there are short term priorities that need addressed. So, today, you get the emergency session that targets that specific weakness immediately.
Your Emergency Session Depends on Your Team's Lowest Score
Use the session that matches your team's biggest weakness from yesterday's diagnostic.
Emergency Session #1: "BALL MASTERY UNDER PRESSURE"
"Keep your head up" - Scan for space whilst keeping ball close
"Use both feet" - Change direction with either foot
"Small touches" - Keep ball close when under pressure
"Be brave" - Take players on, don't avoid challenges
Why This Works:
Tag games force players to keep the ball under pressure whilst making quick decisions. They develop ball mastery, spatial awareness, and confidence in tight spaces - exactly what your technical assessment identified as weak.
"Look for the free goal" - Scan constantly for least defended option
"Use the neutrals" - Create overloads to break through
"Switch play quickly" - If one side is blocked, go to the other
"Defend as a unit" - Cover multiple goals through positioning
Why This Works:
Multiple goals force quick decision-making under pressure. Players must constantly scan, assess options, and make smart choices about when to keep possession vs when to attack - directly addressing tactical weaknesses.
"Sprint to every ball" - No walking, constant movement
"Press immediately" - When you lose the ball, win it back instantly
"Use the neutrals" - Quick passing to maintain intensity
"Keep your head" - Make good decisions when tired
Why This Works:
The 3 neutrals create constant overloads, demanding high-intensity running, quick decision-making under fatigue, and rapid transitions. Develops match fitness whilst improving football skills.
While I would always recommend you focus on long term development, if you have short term priorities then you can use this 4 step process (45 minutes):
1
Warm-up with Purpose
Light movement with ball (5 mins)
2
Emergency Session
Target your weak area in a small sided game (25 mins)
3
Game Application
Use the weak area in match situation (10 mins)
4
Cool Down
End on success (5 mins)
